Wharram Percy, an abandoned medieval village in Yorkshire, England. The church, graveyard and mill pond are now the only obvious signs of the medieval community that once lived here. Archaeologists have marked out some of the outlines of the old houses around the church and on the slope of the valley in the left if the picture. The majority of the villagers were forced out to make room for sheep grazing, leaving a single farm for a while until that to eventually fell into ruin and was abandoned. The village passed through the hands of a number of wealthy land owners, including the infamous Percy family, and there is evidence of two manor houses on the site.
A beautiful place in the middle of nowhere, full of interest if you know what you’re looking for.
